Game Day Game Day Vol Navy - Knoxville, TN

Knoxville, TN — The Volunteer Navy, often referred to as Vol Navy, was started in 1962 by an announcer named George Mooney. George was looking for a way to avoid all of the game day traffic so he began taking is boat and tying it to a tree on the river front and had to climb rocks and over a hill to reach the stadium.

Pride & Tradition

This began the tradition and since then it has grown to over 200 boats. The Volunteer Landing Marina was built so that the boats had a place to dock during the games.

The University of Tennessee

The Vol Navy has become a much loved tradition for the University of Tennessee. This is also a unique tradition because The University of Tennessee is one of three schools in the country that has a stadium next to a water front. The Vol Navy gives a great way to tailgate without the hassle of traffic after a game.
