In 1962 the stadium was renamed Neyland Stadium in honor of Coach Robert Neyland who brought the Tennessee football program into spotlight and made it one of the powerhouses of the SEC. The field which the game is played on is still named Shields-Watkins field.
The stadium holds 102,455 spectators. This makes it the 3rd largest non racing stadium in the country and the 6th largest non racing stadium in the world. The Stadium underwent some renovations which were completed in 2010 with a cost of $136.5 million dollars. The stadium has been voted one of the top football experiences in the country.
